Brakes
Failsafe brakes stop the motor from turning after the power is switched off, this can be particularly important where a motor is driving loads vertically. If power is switched off the load would ordinarily drop to the bottom of the travel and do some damage, but with a failsafe brake the load is prevented from moving.
